Manual Handling for Office Staff 

 

What is Manual Handling:                                                                                      Manual handling of loads means any transporting or supporting of a load by one or more employees and includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving a load, which, by reason of its characteristics or of unfavourable ergonomic conditions, involves risk, particularly of back injury, to employees.

 

Who Needs to be Trained:

All staff who are required to lift any objects in the course of their work duties, including office staff

 

Is Manual Handling Mandatory:

The duties of an employer are covered by the Manual Handling of Loads Regulation, Safety, Health at Welfare at Work ( General Application ) Regulations 2007, Regulation 69(b): Duties of employer. These Regulations set out a framework for employers to avoid or reduce the risk of injury resulting from manual handling activities. Download a copy here  Manual Handling Regulations 2007

There are four key requirements that are listed in priority:

  1. Avoidance of Manual Handling tasks if possible
  2. Reduction of Manual Handling tasks undertaken
  3. Perform a risk assessment of unavoidable Manual handling tasks
  4. Provision of instruction and training for relevant employees

Course Duration:

Training is conducted by experienced FETAC assessed instructors and lasts for approximately 3.5

Course Content:

Classroom based with practical examples, DVD and Powerpoint presentation. This course is also available in a format suitable for Polish Speaking staff. Modules include: 

  • Legislation
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Ergonomics
  • Hazard Identification
  • Risk Assessment
  • Principles of Lifting
  • Practical: Lifting, Moving, Carrying, Push and Pull

     

Course Cost:

For 2013 we are offering a standard ½ day FETAC compliant Manual Handling course for 12 staff at your premises for an unbelievable price of €270.

This equates to only €22.50 per staff member. We can also arrange an off-site training at an external venue, please contact us for details.
